Purchase the Crain's Chicago Business executive recruiter list. The NY list notes the professions each firm recruits for, and I assume the Chicago list will as well. Find those that recruit for law firms, and off you go.

How much is the cheapest studio apartment in a safe Illinois/Chicago suburb

How much is the cheapest studio apartment in a safe Illinois/Chicago suburb?
What kind of pricing range should I expect? 670? Can I get something less than that? I want to be somewhere safe for a single girl...Aurora and Elgin has some cheap places, but they're in not so good areas. My school is in Schaumburg, but I know that area is expensive...What are the other good suburbs near there that would have less expensive studios if any? THanks.

have you tried lisle? i don't know how safe that city is but they had cheap apartments by the college there when i was searching for apartments. i have a 1 bedroom apartment for $750 in naperville. it's a safe area and close to the train station....it's kinda far away from schaumburg but so is aurora. i doubt you're going to find anything cheaper than $650-700 in a safe area :[ maybe you could try to find a room for rent? that is usually cheaper then having your own apartment but it might not be what you're looking for.

Have you tried Elhurst... a studio is like $700 or if you want something near public transportation, in Villa Park you can get a 1 bedroom appartment for $650 a month.

I believe the yearly tuition/fees for UIC Medicine for in-state residents is about $30k. I believe they get 7000-8000 applicants for 300 spots. Your high school record is unimportant.

Illinois Institute of Art... what area of Chicago is the school located?
I am currently looking for apartment options because I will be attending this school. Other than the recommended Presidential Towers, and the Dwight lofts. Just in case there is nothing available for me to rent. I found a website http://chicago.apartments.com/ that will show different apartments in different locations, but I do not know what the area the school is located in called. For instance... Chicago North, Chicago South, Cook County North, Du Page West Cook, Far North Suburbs, Far Northwest Suburbs, Far South Suburbs, Far Southwest suburbs, Far West Suburbs, and last but not least, Northwestern Indiana.

It is the downtown area. The school is located in the Merchandise Mart. I would call it the near northside meaning it is north of downtown yet very close to downtown. I found out that they list two campuses. The second one is located in Schaumburg which is about 20 miles outside the city limits in a northwest direction.

I don't understand it, how it could be listed alongside such schools when it is considered to have some of the best business programs, and is the second largest in the state. I mean Chicago State and Northeastern barely have a website running!!! Please explain..

illinois urbana champaign is ranked in Tier 2 overall, and its business program is ranked in Tier 1. I have not heard of northern illinois. sorry D:

Haha, I ask myself the same question daily. NIU is like the Toyota of colleges. It is hip, ahead of the game, and reasonably affordable compared to other products in its industry...more or less, they're an incredible value! All these "prestigious" schools, like University of Illinois, are more like GM. They're not bad schools, but they are such powerhouses in the industry that their name gives them a better reputation than their products can live up to. Nothing against U of I, but their business program doesn't even have a true Marketing Department. And if business carries out in the University Industry as it did in the Auto Industry, it will only be a matter of time before consumers truly understand who deserves the prestige. I didn't really answer your question, but hopefully you got some enjoyment.

i don't know anybody from chicago. but if you buy this book: A Master Course in Feng-shui by Eva Wong ISBN: 1-57062-584-0, it will instruct you how to use the flying stars method. buy the second edition, as it has more examples at the end of the book. it is one of the books that teaches authentic fengshui. if you are interested in taking a course, take a look at www.fengshuisos.com. i have been taking some courses under master peter leung. he is based in toronto. the best thing about his courses is that it is not that expensive compared with the other masters. and the course is in english. just be careful in choosing a school or a so called master. it is important to look at the history of their experience. how long have they been practicing? who are their clients? are the clients rich now and doing okay? family lineage does not prove that the person is good. among the chinese community there are only a handful of good masters, most of whom are in asian countries, or do not teach like ms. eva wong.

yes, and it is very good and reliable school as well as feng shui consultation. Try Feng Chicago Center located at 3258 West Irving Park Road,Chicgo, Illinois 60618 with tel. no. 773-478-8878. They have been a member of US FENG SHUI ASSOCIATION SUCH as ww.fengshuidirectory.com or www.internationalfengshuiguild.org for over 10 years. The master is a lady from Philippines who does real estate and mortgage brokerage businesses also in Chicago and had lots of clients who are very happy with her advise especially in the field of businessess. Her name is Patty Par. Only few masters ran other businesses and they do not have offices but this Feng Shui Chicago had offices located in the main street of Chicago. Their consultation services and the way they teached feng shui class is remarkably and originality unlike other schools it takes forever. There you can do for a short while like one day. Try and you will be happy.

I am thinking about Homeschooling my sons in Chicago, Illinois. What do I do?
My sons are 13 and 15. One is already a Freshman in High School the other is on his way. I live on the Northwest Side of Chicago and I want to know if there are any Homeschool groups in our area.

Illinois is a great state in which to home school. The laws are fairly easy with which to comply. That frees you up to focus energy on helping the boys. There are some great home school support groups out your way, too. I used to live in Downer's Grove. To get a good idea of the general home school laws, get links on how to start, and even possibly find some loval support groups, you can start with one site. www.hslda.org You do not need to join them to get information from them to help you start.

2
Well, you should also consider what they want to do. Homeschooling can be very lonely, despite what groups you get involved with, it just isn't the same as you might think. It's slightly complicated to understand if you have never experienced it, but people seem to treat you differently once they find out you homeschool. =/ So I say you discuss this with them before your mind is made up. Although some children are less social, maybe it is good for them and they won't mind. I have no idea, that is your choice. I am just dropping by to say, it isn't as fun as it seems/looks. It becomes progressively difficult as the years go by. I wouldn't particularly advise such a thing for a 13 year old, that is when I personally switched from real school to homeschool. I miss the difference, and I notice I have less of a social outter life than I am used to. I would say you never actually adjust, but for a 15 year old, it is only a few years. I would say that is enough freedom to explore other area's for himself by himself. Isolation can be a great thing, but also a very lonely experience.

hey yea there are some home school programs ..like in Lansing ,Illinois there's the American School of Correspondence which is accredited .....http://americanschoolofcorr.com.....go there to get more info......its only 16 or 18 credits .....and really worth it...got any questions feel free to IM me

4
You are so lucky to live in Chicago! IL has virtually no homeschool regulation, tons of programs and projects and plenty of other families that homeschool. You have so many resources for yourself and your children that the most difficult thing you will have to do is decide which ones you won't use. Congratulations!

About all you can do is compare yourself to the students they did accept. Here's how the middle half of their most recent freshman class scored: ACT Middle 50%: 21 - 26 Math Middle 50%: 20 - 27 English Middle 50%: 20 - 27 Students in Top Tenth of HS Class:23% As you can see, you're near the bottom of that middle group, but it's not absolutely out of the question if your activities and class rank are good.

What makes an university a better school should the number of students be taken into consideration?

What makes an university a better school should the number of students be taken into consideration?
I kinda want to attend this suburban college Governors State U.as oppsed to UIC (university of ilinois at Chicago which is a really big school) but GSU only have approx. 6000 students considering this school is only an upper level division that means that you can only transfer in as a junior and up or have completed an Associates at another institution. Which school would be best Uic had about 60 students a class Gsu had approx 15 students a class. Which would be a better option should i worry about the enrollement in these schools
Higher Education (University +) - 5 Answers

Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1
It's not that the size of a university has anything to do with how good it is, in general. It's how well that university fits you, personally, and size is definately a consideration. If you feel that U Illinois Chicago is simply too big for you, and that GSU is a better fit because it is smaller, than that's a completely valid choice, and you're probably right. Go with your gut. So long as both schools are respectable and appropriately accredited, and GSU offers what you want, then go there.

2
The number of students that go to a school matters less than the number of students per class. Smaller classes mean more attention and help. I would talk with the admissions people at Governor's State and see if your completed credits will transfer. Most schools are really picky about what they will accept. If the school you received your associates degree from is a nationally accredited institution and the school you are trying to go to is regionally accredited you have little to no chance to transfer your credits. The plus to big schools is that more people are familiar with them and a future employer would have some name recognition. Good luck!

3
Whatever is cheaper! It also depends on your program of study.....my sisters O.T. (occupational therapy) classes only had 4 students in it. I went to the biggest university of my state and there were 60+ students in general courses and about 20+ students in my program of study. Your professors are still going to be just as available to you for any needs, concerns or questions. I attended a junior college that had about 25 students and I found that they were worse behaved than the university students. Also, most professors do not tolerate excessive noise and disruption in classrooms so you shouldn't worry that your education will be sacrificed or ruined.

4
I vote for smaller is better. With 15 people in a class everyone has to be prepared because you really can't hide. The prof will know your name (great for when you need a letter of recommendation), you should get really interesting discussions and you will learn from your peers. Not to mention you will be more challenged because you will have to think on your feet and be able to explain your answers to the class. Great preparation for the work place or grad school!

5
Look at the variety of classes offered in your field. UIC probably has more choices. GSU probably gives more individual attention. (This may vary with the major.) Also make sure that the classes will "make" (have enough students to be worth actually teaching the class) and that you will be able to line up classes to graduate on your schedule. Beyond that, go with whichever you feel more comfortable with. For undergraduate the degree is more important than the school.

Obama is a big fat liar?

Obama is a big fat liar?
Another Obama lie. Why did Obama lie about being a law school professor in constitutional law at the University of Chicago during his senate race for Illinois at 2004. How can he honestly become president if he has to make up lies to become the senator of Ilinois? Maybe this is another proof that he has been trying to cover up the fact that he is incompetent his entire political career. Here is a credible source: http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2008/03/sweet_obama_did_hold_the_title.html Pathetic. Trying to deny the truth. Additional comments- big fat liar is an expression for some of you who are unaware. it does not refer to Obama being "big" or "fat. If you still think I am a liar...this story will come up all over google. The actual website I chose for a source really doesn't matter....because it's the same report.......

Figures lie and liars figure. You're figuring. From 1992 until his election to the U.S. Senate in 2004, Barack Obama served as a professor in the Law School. He was a Lecturer from 1992 to 1996. He was a Senior Lecturer from 1996 to 2004, during which time he taught three courses per year. Senior Lecturers are considered to be members of the Law School faculty and are regarded as professors, although not full-time or tenure-track.

Obama isn't qualified Lawfully , to be President. The following came from a USNA alumnus. It'll be interesting to see how the media handles this... Barack Obama is not a legal U.S. natural-born citizen according to the law on the books at the time of his birth, which falls between December 24, 1952, to November 13, 1986. Federal Law requires that the office of President requires a natural-born citizen if the child was not born to two U.S. Citizen parents. This is what exempts John McCain, though he was born in the US Panama Canal Zone. US Law very clearly states: '. . . If only one parent is a U.S. Citizen at the time of one's birth, that parent must have resided in the United States for minimum ten years, five of which must be after the age of 16.' Barack Obama's father was not a U.S. Citizen is a fact. Obama's mother was only 18 when Obama was born. This means even though she had been a U.S. Citizen for 10 years, (or citizen of Hawaii being a territory), his mother fails the test for at-least-5-years- prior-to Barack Obama's birth, but-after-age-16. In essence, Mother alone is not old enough to qualify her son for automatic U.S. Citizenship. At most, 2 years elapsed from his mother turning 16 to the time of Barack Obama's birth when she was 18. His mother would have needed to have been 16 + 5 = 21 years old at the time of Barack Obama's birth for him to be a natural-born citizen. Barack Obama was already 3 years old at the time his mother would have needed to be to allow him natural citizenship from his only U.S. Citizen parent. Obama should have been naturalized as a citizen . . . but that would disqualify him from holding the office. The Constitution clearly declares: Naturalized citizens are ineligible to hold the office of President. Though Barack Obama was sent back to Hawaii at age 10, any other information does not matter because his mother is the one who must fulfill the requirement to be a U.S. Citzen for 10 years prior to his birth on August 4, 1961, with 5 of those years being after age 16. Further, Obama may have had to have remained in the USA for some time frame to protect any citizenship he might have had, rather than living in Indonesia. This is very clear cut and a glaring violation of U.S. Election law.

17
The public does not care. the public has been confused and no longer can tell the difference between right and wrong, good and evil or normal and abnormal. They are teaching our kids in school that homosexuality and cross-dressing is normal and healthy and should be celebrated and experimented with. They are teaching them that religion and God are "fairy tales" and believers are misguided, judgmental hypocrites. They are teaching them that the US is a racist, sexist nation. They are teaching them that our police are brutal and racist. They are teaching them that out troops are murderers. They are teaching them that humans have the ability to alter the global climate and that we are in the process of destroying the Earth and all of its inhabitants. They are teaching them that it's fine for teenagers to have sex and they are giving them birth control pills and condoms starting at m11 years old. They are teaching them that it is wrong to enforce US immigration laws. They are teaching them that all forms of diversity should be celebrated, no matter how weird, negative, abnormal or immoral. They are teaching them that there are no moral absolutes. All types of horrific behavior have some sort of valid justifications. Nobody brought up in today's environment can tell right from wrong.

18
Was that a question? Obama is neither big nor fat- just dishonest. But then - he's a politcian.

19
He's a big and disgustingly skinny liar.

20
How do you know that's a reliable source???

21
Of course he is he's a POLITICIAN.

22
By that standard, so was Abraham Lincoln. He blatantly campaigned on his poverty-stricken childhood. He was indeed born in a log cabin. But his father was one of the richest people in Larue county. The log cabin on display in the Kentucky museum has no resemblance to what Lincoln lived in as a child. Do you think Andrew Jackson never told a lie? How about Theodore Roosevelt? How about Franklin Roosevelt? How about George H.W. Bush? How about George W. Bush? How about Bill Clinton? How about Ronald Reagan? How about Richard Nixon? You know, there was a myth running around some time back that George Washington never told a lie. Well, a myth was all it was. Have you ever told a lie? By the way, I don't know of a single instance where James Carter told a lie. (There may be cases, but I have never heard of any of them.) At any rate, this very honest man was an abysmal president, was he not? Well, I guess I don't get your point. It doesn't seem to add any value to the process. I'm a Republican, and I think we should focus on things that matter. The Senator's exaggeration of his teaching experience does not bother me one iota.

23
He lied because he is incompetent.

Everything IMSA, do I have a chance?

Everything IMSA, do I have a chance?
I am planning to apply to the Ilinois Math and Science Academy. I want to pursue a career in forensics, so I think this school would benefit me greatly. Here is my info: Location: Chicago area Grades: All A's in english and math and in science A+'s from the past two years Freshman classes: I am taking honors english, honors biology and honors geometry (would it affect me that my school offers algebra II but I can't take it?) G.P.A: since 7th grade about 3.999, but last year I received my all time low 3.8 something. the G.P.A from school can only go up to about 4.1 Gender: Female Ethnicity: Hispanic Extracurriculars: Figure skating, volleyball and some dance Clubs: Science Olympiad and a competing math club SAT: I am currently studying a LOT, I am taking it in a few months I am attending the EIP program to show my interest in the school What are my chances considering there is a lot of competetion from where I live, and my not so spectacular grades? I forgot to mention I am also in band and choir, if that helps at all. And my teacher evaluations, I expect, are really good.

You sound like every other person applying to IMSA. I really can't help you until you get your SAT scores, which separates the men from the boys. Seriously, study a LOT. And make sure your essays are great. And stop thinking "my all time low" or "I usually do better", because IMSA won't care. You have what you have, and crying over how you usually should do better is not going to do anything. Another thing to consider is getting over your perfectionism. I am also a perfectionist, and I will tell you that perfectionism and IMSA is bound to end badly. Just something to keep in mind.

Which school would be best Uic had about 60 students a class Gsu had approx 15 students a class. Which would be a better option should i worry about the enrollement in these schools

I think that the smaller the class, the better. If you're in a big class, professors don't know your name (usually), and you don't have much of a relationship with them. If you're in a small class, you can really participate and be engaged in the class, and get to know the professor (who can write you recommendations for jobs later, and be a great mentor.)

Non high school students can work as a pharmacy technician, if they are currently high school students. However, the pharmacies do not like to hire techs under 18. There are no special programs which I am awhere of. Just contact your local pharmacies and see if they are hiring. You will also need to get a pharm tech license.

Purchase the Crain's Chicago Business executive recruiter list. The NY list notes the professions each firm recruits for, and I assume the Chicago list will as well. Find those that recruit for law firms, and off you go.

I messed up my last quarter of high school!! Will i get denied from the University of Illinois at Chicago?!?

I messed up my last quarter of high school!! Will i get denied from the University of Illinois at Chicago?!?
I had three classes this last quarter...AP Biology, Physics, and AP English. This last quarter i messed up and i got a D in AP Biology, a Pass in physics (i took it pass/fail, and a D in AP English will the University of Illinois at Chicago deny me?? I was admitted into the Applied Health Sciences school. Is there anything i can do??? FYI, I'm taking summer school at a community college to get ahead. I just finished my Anthropology class and i believe i got an A. Now i am taking English 102 (because i was granted credit for english 101 because of my ACT) and Psychology 101. I plan to do well in these as well. So basically i just messed up in my AP English and Bio class. English doesnt matter because i'll be done with it for the rest of my life once i'm done with it this summer. However do they look at it the same way?? How can i prove to them that i am doing well in these college classes and that i am going above and beyond most kids in the summer and doing a total of 12 credit hours??? I don't know what happened this last quarter but i'm deffinetly a hard worker...

Talk to the school and see what they say. Failing your last semester in high school is not a good sign that you will do well in college. It is a good indicator that you're too busy partying these days to focus on what's really important. You're going to have to impress upon them that you are a worthwhile candidate. You may have to start at a community college and then tranfer to the better school. In which case, be sure you take classes that will transfer.

2
D's are really bad for College Transcript, let alone a C. I wouldn't be surprised if they stripped you of your scholarship, just expect the worse and hope for the best. If your in your Senior year of HS, then theres probably nothing you can do to change there mind. If you don't get accepted, you can always go to a local Community College for 2 years, and join the honors program over there. You probably are capable of getting A's and B's, and maybe you can transfer to an even better university than Illinois. Many people say that your Senior Year is the most "unimportant year in Highschool." Thats deadwrong, Colleges look at your Senior Grades, because that usually reflects on your attitude/personality. People who tend to consistently do well from Freshmen-Senior impresses colleges a lot. But people who do well from Freshmen-Junior year and slack off their Senior, gives Colleges a very bad impression. They think that you don't care anymore and aren't determined. But to answer your question....its really up to the University to decide if they still want you, based on what you did at the Community College, I think you have a good shot to go to the University your supposed to attend. Good luck

3
if they deny u u can allways join the air force and they will pay for ur college

4
if you were already admitted then you probably won't be denied....in all honesty U of I isn't really a good school...or that good of one...so you aren't in that bad of a position...i mean you shouldn't have screwed yourself like that in high school...but there's worse you could have done... anyway...you could take summer classes to help erase some of those bad grades...but the fact that you only had 3 classes and screwed them up so badly doesn't look good...and you probably didn't earn college credit for any of those... i'm not sure of what else you can do...but you really shouldn't have put yourself into this kind of position...you really shot yourself in the foot this time...

I am thinking about Homeschooling my sons in Chicago, Illinois. What do I do?
My sons are 13 and 15. One is already a Freshman in High School the other is on his way. I live on the Northwest Side of Chicago and I want to know if there are any Homeschool groups in our area.
Home Schooling - 7 Answers

3

4
You are so lucky to live in Chicago! IL has virtually no homeschool regulation, tons of programs and projects and plenty of other families that homeschool. You have so many resources for yourself and your children that the most difficult thing you will have to do is decide which ones you won't use. Congratulations!

I was looking to take drivers education now that I'm 15. The problem is that my school only offers it to juniors and seniors. And other private driving schools in Chicago Illinois are so expensive they are like $300-$350 bucks for the four week course. Instead I thought I could take drivers ed online and get my permit. It seems to be much cheaper. Could I do this?

http://www.isp.state.il.us/docs/1-154.pdf According to the Illinois State website you should be fine as long as you have a permit and transport it according to their laws. I would still recommend checking with the state or the NRA for your options.

3
Your options are to get a Concealed Weapons License. The Supreme Court recently ruled that anyone can own a gun anywhere in the US. So even though Chicago has that ordinance it is not enforceable so no trouble there. Check with the state law and see if they honor the license from another state(texas). I

none

2
as i know there is none. for me training in the Navy is still the best.

3
The AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Assn) website shows five pilot training schools in the Chicago area, with two at Midway airport and three at Lansing Municipal. Associated Air in Lansing, IL is a Cessna Pilot center offering a full range of pilot training courses... As far as age goes... Scheduled Airline (FAR Part 121) pilots must retire on their 60th birthday, but you can continue to fly as a commercial pilot in charter and corporate operations (Part 135 and Part 91) as long as you can pass your flight physical. One famous air show pilot, Bob Hoover, is well into his 80's and still flying demonstration flights at air shows around the country.

4
In Malaysia, they converted flight engineers to pilots, but said if they were past 45 they're to old. I used to fly in a place called Cushing Field, run by an ex TWA pilot, Bud Cushing, and his wife. The field is somewhere between Aurora and DuPage. Pretty good, nice little field and very good rental rates, not to mention friendly instructors.

5
If you are going to get your Private, get the he** away from Chi ATC does not like you playing in "their" airspace.

6
I wouldn't learn how to fly in or near Chicago Center air traffic control. It's kind of hard giving a 172 instructions when ya got 3 777s coming at you from different directions, LOL. I would go out south and learn there. Plus, with learning at Midway or Palwaukee for that matter, it can be more expensive. A lot of flight schools will take ya up for an intro ride for about $60 to let you see how it is. I myself went to the flight school at Palwaukee Flyers and it cost me a total of $5,500. I never considered becoming an airline pilot (look at all those furloughed after 9/11), but I wanted my private pilot license for other purposes. After 5 years of having my license, I now happily own a Beech Baron and a Cessna 172. I fly everywhere I go over 80 miles. Works for everybody, my kids love it and my wife loves having not to take commercial airplanes.

7
I like your dreams, But first you need to learn how to spell Pilot. Or at least hit the spell check on the top of the page.

Contact your local Children's Hospital. Most of them have a pediatric dental unit that also take Medicaid. You'll probably have to also pull your child out of school for the appointment since most dentist offices are open during the day. Evening and weekend appointments are generally for emergencies only.

Check your local community college. Ours offers GED tests at the cost of about $20 per test (I think there are about 5-6 tests). There may be programs that pay those costs for low income students, so you might want to ask about that if you think you might qualify . Talk to an advisor at the college and see what you need, aside from a GED, to enroll in college. Best of luck to you!

2
I actually dropped out at the begining of the school year. I was told that i didn't need my GED to get into a tech school but you should get it anyway. If you want to get into a university or something, you need you're GED, plus you have to do the SAT's. I got my GED at my high school. They offered a special class where someone was there to help you prepare for the GED testing. Try going to you're high school and asking what you should do to prepare for the GED test and ask them if there is someone there that can help you. The best way to prepare is to have someone there to help you. I know that if i didn't have my aid, i wouldn't have passed. I don't think i could have studied the books that most people get. For me, there were 5 tests total. Science. Social Studies. Mathmatics. Language arts. And a writing part where i had to write an essay. Each was $20. I'm not gonna tell you if it's hard or not because my aid told me to never tell a GED testee that it's easy or hard because it's different for everyone. She also told me that 3 out of 5 high school students can't pass the GED test. Don't worry though, to me, it was fairly easy :) Good Luck! Just keep in mind that since you dropped out of high school, you need you're GED. You're going to need a job to at least help get you into college and you'll need a GED to get a job.

First of all you are looking for a 'trade school'. do you want carpentry, or electronics, or computer, or medical or legal, or hair dressing, or office work? Some school can handle all, but most have a specialty. So you need to narrow down what you are looking for. Look in the yellow pages of a phone book under trade schools, or put Trade School in Illinois in your search engine and see what comes up.

I live in Illinois, Chicago area. The kindergarten here is only half day,2.5,hours.?
I am wondering if it is just my district or if all Illinois schools are half day kindergarten. What a shame if it is. We moved here from a southern state and it is a full school day as it should be.

I have been in 3 different IL school districts. All have half day kindergarten. "as it should be" hmmm. I think some children do better with a year of half day school to transition them into school life.

How can i prove to them that i am doing well in these college classes and that i am going above and beyond most kids in the summer and doing a total of 12 credit hour After my psych and english class finish i'm also taking a history class. By then it will be fall and hopefully time for UIC????

from what I know colleges only recieve your gpa of your junior year, when i was in high school i had to go to the college room to select which colleges should get my transcript and my transcript that my counselor was holding only read my classes and grades that i took my junior year! I heard it was because they feal that was the year you were in your comfort zone in school. as a freshman your just adapting and could mess up senior year there is to much stress and could easily mess up and sophmore maybe they still think we are adapting, but dont worry as long as your gpa is high and AP you'll get in, check the college site and look for the catalogue click on admissions for incoming freshman requirements it will tell you what you need to get in good luck!

If you were already admitted, you should be fine, as long as you were not a conditional acceptance. Go, find that admission letter, and read the fine print. For UIC, you should be okay. What I am a little concerned about is your choice of college and the classes you did poorly in. I am assuming that the course of study in Applied Health Science will involve Biology and Physics, and at the very least, a couple English or Communications courses to learn how to effectively communicate with patients or clients. You should get your AP exam grades back in a while (they should be graded in June), and from these, you can decide if you did poorly in the class because you were unmotivated to study, or if you did not understand the material. Either way, it does not bode well for your academic success at University. As for your erroneous comment that "English doesnt [sic] matter [,] because i'll [sic] be done with it for the rest of my life", you may want to examine the spelling and grammar errors contained in just this one sentence. PLUS, the University of Illinois has two Composition requirements... Comp I could be satisfied with a grade of 4 or 5 on the AP English test, and Comp II will be an intensive writing class in the field of your major. The University of Illinois wants to make sure that the English major's math skills are on par with the Engineers, so the reverse is true... the Engineers need to have English skills on par with the English majors. We call that "being well-rounded". This holds true for all three campuses. You mentioned that you are taking English 102 at your community college, having tested out of English 101. Being a former community college worker, I hate to burst your bubble, but that's not much of a feat. English 101 and Math 101 tend to be remedial classes that anyone with a High School Diploma should place out of. It's really nothing special. I doubt that it will transfer directly to UIC, where Engl 102 is a film class. From UIC's website, you need to meet the University Writing Requirement, defined as follows: "Students must demonstrate proficiency in written English by earning passing grades in English 160 and English 161, or by achieving proficiency in one or both of these courses certified in writing by the Department of English. The Department of English reserves the right to require a student to take a preparatory course as a prerequisite for English 160 if the student̢۪s score on the Writing Placement Test reveals the need for such a course. Whenever questions arrive with regard to the fulfillment of the University Writing requirement through transfer courses, a writing portfolio, or standard examinations, the Department of English will determine whether to grant the student an exemption from the requirement. Students should consult their college section of the catalog for more information on fulfilling the University Writing requirement as part of their degree program"

Which Chicago school for Physics/Engineering?

Which Chicago school for Physics/Engineering?
I have filled out my intent to enroll for the University of Illinois @ Chicago already but I would like some opinions. I have been accepted to UIC, Loyola, and DePaul for Physics and Roosevelt for Mathematics. I'd like for you to list and rank the 3 schools I have been accepted to for their Physics Programs. I also have Engineering in the back of my mind and was considering applying to the Engineering department in the future so you could list/rank the schools with respect to that as well, if you'd like. Thanks in advance, -Rich L.

is this a good move or should I have gone to Northern Illinois University? (which is a actual univeristy)? NIU is 51-49% female to male and Northeastern is 60% female and 40% male... did I make the right choice??? or is a commuter school with alot of chicks not a big deal???

Northeastern's supposed to be a good school.....on Bryn Mawr...... It's about 10 blocks from my house........

I think your focus should be on the academics not how many females/males attending the school. That being said, your definition of "good" really depends on what major you are looking to major in and if the school has good faculty members that can provide a good education in the field that you are majoring in.

4
I currently go to Northeastern. It's a pretty good school...classes are easy (whether you think that's a good thing or not is up to you), the most of the professors are cool, the area's nice, public transportation there is pretty good (plenty of parking too) Oh and by the way...the girl/boy thing doesn't matter on paper....it all comes down to the classes you take as to who you'll see. my advanced science classes--not many girls at all...like 3 my electives---50/50 my education classes--mostly girls...very few guys What's wrong with a commuter school with a lot of girls though, i'm curious....

Neither Greyhound nor Amtrak serve Jacksonville, IL. The closest bus and train stations are in Springfield There are 6 or 7 trains (depending on the day) leaving Union Station for Springfield. Fares are $18.00, $23.00, $24.00, and $33.00 each way....3 1/2 hr ride. Fill in specifics below: http://tickets.amtrak.com/itd/amtrak/FareFinder?_tripType=OneWay&_origin=chicago&_depmonthyear=2009-02&_depday=03&_dephourmin=&_destination=jacksonville%2C+il&_retmonthyear=&_retday=&_rethourmin=&_adults=1&_children=0&_infants=0&_searchBy=schedule&x=24&y=10 Greyhound has 3 buses to Springfield with a fare of $41.00 or $48.00...3 or 4 hr ride: http://www.greyhound.com/home/ticketcenter/en/step1.asp It's then about 42 miles west to Jacksonville. That means a limo. I presume the Jacksonville company will be cheaper. Either way they will have to make a round trip both times and probably charge you for it. there is no website but you can call to find out the cost and to make arrangements for pick-up. There are 2 Limousine companies in Jacksonville but they have the same address and phone number...so much for competition: Executive Limousine...and Classical Limousine 406 S Main St Jacksonville, IL 62650 (217 523-5466â€Å½ Don't forget the CTA or METRA fare to and from Union Station or the Greyhound depot. See routes and fares below: http://tripsweb.rtachicago.com/ * I would include a meal on both legs of the round trip for 4 of you....$7.00-$10.00 x 2 x 4 = $56.00-$80.00.

Public transportation to Jacksonville is almost non-existent! You can get to Springfield easily, but the last 30 to 40 miles or so to Jacksonville is the problem. Frankly, driving might be your best choice. By the way, Jacksonville is really a very nice place!

Chicago, Illinois: To which of the following high school should I go? Jones, Payton, or Curie IB?

Chicago, Illinois: To which of the following high school should I go? Jones, Payton, or Curie IB?
You see, I am going to be in the 8th Grade next year and will be selecting my high school. I am very concerned with my high school choice and finally came around three choices after researching for two years. 1. Jones College Prep 2. Payton College Prep 3. Curie IB Jones and Payton are both excellent selective enrollment schools, but getting into an IB Program is superior. Jones and Payton both have a small student body, and I like that because I came from J. Ward where there are around 450 students. I know that most of my friends would be at Curie (regular classes). Payton is pretty techy. Also, I want to go to a school where they do not push too hard on the academics. No P.E. (Gym, not Driver's Ed. or Health) is preferred. I have not taken the entrance test yet, so I am not pretty sure if I could get in. The points I know for sure is that I have gotten: 99 in ISAT Math: 150 points 99 in ISAT Reading: 150 An 'A' in all four core sub.s: 75 X 4 = 300 1 day absent and 7 days tardy (awkward...) (I do not know if tardies count.): 98 (w/o tardies)/91 (w/ tardies) Total (without 300 for entrance exam): 698/691 So, where do you think I should go? Also, tell me anything about the schools. Is high school scary? Thank you! By the way, I did not get accepted to /applied for any of the high schools yet. If you have any q's, just ask.

If you don't want to go to a tough school academically, I hope you like flipping burgers. You're right, IB is superior. However, likely as not even Curie's non-IB students are held to a higher academic standard. Being with friends is nice, but not the way to choose a school. At least for my school IB students weren't required to take PE courses because we wouldn't have room in our schedules for them; you can check the requirements yourself for Curie. If you'd like to make something of yourself in the future, I recommend doing IB, if for no other reason than to learn discipline and time management, which are invaluable skills for college as well as life in general. High school is not nearly as scary nor as exciting as depicted in popular culture, you have nothing to fear. Or look forward to, unless you're the kind of person who genuinely enjoys being at school. And based on your preference for a school "where they do not push too hard on the academics," you're probably not.

That's a hard question to answer in the abstract, but simply, yes. It is well respected in the Chicago area, and is particularly strong in some post-grad areas (medicine, dentistry). It is reasonably priced, close to the city, and has many strong professors.

2
UIC is considered a good, solid school. It is particularly reknown in health care. The school also has solid engineering and business programs. It is not a liberal arts school.

3
For? Yes, it is a good school, and definately one of the best within the city limits of Chicago. If you are going for Medicine or Life Sciences, then it is a great school. However, like most schools, it does depend on the major - you may find that there are better programs at a local private school that may be worth the extra tuition (say, Northwestern). If you are still undecided, then UIC is probably with the price of instate tuition vs. private college for a couple of years of "finding yourself."

UIC. I spent 4 years there ('03-'07) and it was a quality program. Although the program had some bugs when i entered, by the time i graduated i wished i could have started a few years later than i did. I got a good balance of technical knowledge and design knowledge. They've made some improvements to the curriculum, according to colleagues i know that are still in graduate school there. There are also a large number of great professors there, many who have worked or do work in the field in Chicago. However, IIT does have the option of doing the 5-year professional degree (or at least they did a few years back) which UIC does not. Hope that helps, check out the link below

2
There are pros and cons to both programs. Of course I am partial to IIT because I graduate there, but that was a long time ago when UIC was at risk of losing their accreditation from NAAB. It comes down to whether you want to do a BArch- 5 years or MArch 4+2 years program. Keep in mind IIT is a private school and their tuition is higher than UIC. Or if you want to have your cake and eat it too, get your BS in Architecture from UIC and finish your 2 year MArch from IIT or even Champaign Urbana. If you decide to follow the MArch path, do not go to the same school from your undergraduate degree. It does not make a lick of sense to endure another two years of education from the same faculty members as your four year degree.

You have the mistaken idea that Kyusho-Jitsu is a style, or school of martial arts. It is part of the higgher level training in any traditional style of karate. It is not something that you can just teach as a stand alone art. To make it work, you must have developed a high level of martial arts skills as well as knowledge of the human body. It is not a magic bullet. It does not work well on about 30% of the population. There are very few instructors that teach the real Kyusho and Tuite. Of those that do they rarely if ever teach it to those that don't train with them. I began training in 1967. The word Kyusho was something I never heard or read about until the 1980's. It was not known by most high level martial artists until about that time. Many of the high level Asians were not taught the techniques themselves. Seiyu Oyata began to talk about it and teach it in the 1970's. The word spread. Like most other things many people now claim to have learned it. Many of these guys are con artist. Some are teaching techniques that are not correct. Bottom line is that you can't find a school that teaches just Kyusho-Jitsu and Tuite-Jitsu. It is just not done that way. TO CLARIFY ..... Most people incorrectly use the term Kyusho or Kyusho-Jitsu. That is only half of what they are referring to. Kyusho-Jitsu is Vital point striking. Tuite-Jitsu is the grappling techniques that also use pressure points.
